How malaria spreads

Types of PROTOZOANS (animal-like protists)

SARCODINES
Found in soil and water
Special Feature = Pseudopods

CILIATES
Example: Paramecium
Found in water
Special Features = Cilia, oral groove, anal pore

ZOOFLAGELLATES
Example: Giardia
Found in Intestines
Special Freatures = flagella, causes sickness in humans
Another type of zooflagellates live in the stomachs of termites to digest the wood the termites eat. This is a symbiotic relationship (they live off each other but don't harm each other). When both organisms benefit, the relationship is called mutualism.

SPOROZOANS
Example: Plasmodium
Found in mosquito saliva or human blood (causes malaria)
Special Features = some have flagella
Sporozoans are parasites which feed on the the cells and body fluids of their hosts and eventually harm them.
